Two 1 hour flights and 8 days in the Lake District

On april the 4th I got up at 6:30 in the morning to catch my flight to Amsterdam from Manchester airport. That's very early, for a student at least, yes I know. And travelling is very tiring. Now my flight was at 10:20 and only one hour, so I wasn't really going to sleep on the plane anymore, which meant no catching up for getting up so early. Result: I was very tired!
When I got back in Amsterdam my dad came to pick me up from the airport. We went home I cuddled my cat very tightly, much to his annoyance and much to my pleasure! My mum came home from work and we had dinner. And in the evening I got to catch up with some of my friends at a bar! Result: I was very happy and still very tired!
The next day I went to the hairdresser at 10 in the morning. After that I went downtown to see if I culd buy some hiking boots, seeing as how me and my parents were going to the Lake District for a week. I strolled the shopping streets of Amsterdam with one of my friends. Didn't buy any boots but did visit the shop were I used to work. In the end I did buy boots but not downtown Amsterdam, I went out of my way on my way home to visit another store.
After that I was in a hurry to get home again because I was still very tired and because another friend of mine was coming to dinner.
In the evening I already had to pack again wrecking my brain on what things I wanted to bring back to Manchester again. The following morning I wouldn't have any time to to so.
The next morning I had to go to a check up at the hospital (research program, they payed my flight!). And the following afternoon I was already flying back again.
Now seeing as how it was the afternoon I wasn't going to sleep on the plane. I was back in the Manc on april 6th at about 5 in the afternoon.
And that's the story of how two on hour flights can completely knacker you!

Thankfully my parents and I were going to the Lake District so I could get some proper rest. Not of course after I had shown them the hectics of Manchester. And also not after we had visited the apparantly even more hectic, no let me rephrase: the hysterical Blackpool! A must have seen for all visiting students! Not only full of attractions, but an attraction itself!
On Saturday april 7th we arrived at Yewedale Farm were we had rented a cottage. It was the loveliest little thing. Though not decorated to our personal tastes definately it couldn't have been any more appropriate!
Welcomed by the bleating of the sheep on the farm we first sat outside for a while to listen to the extremely hilarious variety of 'voices' they have. It's probably hard to imagine but we were seriously cracking up, who needs stand-up comedy when you've got a flock of sheep? Even at the end of the week it was still funny, though I think I have currently had my fill of bleating.
The weather during our stay in the lovely Lake District was kind of mixed. Which resulted in having to go out of our way sometimes as my hiking boots weren't exacty waterproof (I admit, I chose looks over function!). Some of the trails were extremly muddy, now I don't mind getting dirt on my shoes. But some of the trails were almost swamp like and I don't like getting wet feet!
At other times we didn't seem to be walking on a trail at all. This happened a lot actually. The trails weren't clearly marked and so we seemed to have wandered off them. When we found a new trail; 'This looks definately like a trail. Look people have clearly walked here!' only for it to dissapear again after 20 metres. In the end we survived though standing on rocky slopes and dangerous edges made me doubt a few times wether we were going to (mind you, I'm slightly exaggeratinghere!).
And in the evenings we enjoyed some wine, at least one bottle per evening. I don't know if the're too comfortable with me saying that, but what the hey! I have actually just realised while typing this tat I am not going to drink wine before and during my dinner this evening and I feel seriously dissapointed. Tsk tsk tsk, I better lay off the booze for a bit!
Highlights of the week (other than drinking wine every evening):
- Surviving on a mountain on monday
- Visiting Muncaster Castle (castles are always excellent)
- My parents and I cracking up over the thought of mixing two 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles together (they belonged the cottage)
- Finally getting to read Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis (also thanks to the belongings of the cottage, brilliant story btw!)
- Surviving on a mountain on friday

I'll put up the pictures one of the coming days. I'll have plenty of time seeing as how I seem to be all alone here in Manchester! So I promise a picture tour of the Lake District! At the top of this post there's a preview of the cottage that we spent our nights in (which were extremely cold, but thankfully not too cold to sleep!).

p.s. I apologize for any typo's and spelling errors, I was too lazy/tired/had too many internet things to take care off to check my writing!
